Good morning my friends! Thought it was about time I got something new up for you all to see. Maybe next time I'll write a little short story like I have done before.
I'm going to show you 3 really cool things...
Several years ago, when I lived in Virginia, one of my sons picked this terrifying creature off my living room wall!!! When he cupped his hand around it, it made whirring, clicking noises like it was angry!!! Look at that spike coming out of it's back end!!!
This beautiful creature is a moth caterpillar named Saturniidae. It looks like a dancer on a pole in a bar!!! LOL Isn't that a beautiful creature?? If I could find one of those I'd keep it as a pet until it changed, maybe even then. I wonder if it will still be that interesting and beautiful when it changes into whatever it's going to be?!!
Later,
Bye!!
I *love* those pictures! I agree, the top one is a baby hugging mama. For the second one, that's easy...it's terrifying! I would not want to run into one of those at all! XD But the third one is gorgeous! I love the colors on it.
ReplyDeleteHope you and your family are doing well! Love to our girl, Barry and Mirage
Glad you share the same opinion as I do about the pictures!! I love those carrots!! lol Love to you all also!!
DeleteThat caterpillar is absolutely beautiful! I wonder why it develops as the way it does to succeed in nature, maybe the appendages are supposed to look like leaves of some sort? Regardless, it's incredible what's all around us at any time; such things as the caterpillar get ignored far too often!! Thank you for sharing this with us again! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment Violet! I think that caterpillar is gorgeous also. Nature sur does have some beautiful stuff!! I I've often just picked a flower or weed and just looked close at every little petal bit of it, and I find that everything is beautiful, amazing, interesting!! :) I wish I could ever see one of these.. I didn't pay any attention to whether it said what part of the world that was found in.
ReplyDeleteHello Grandma! Some very interesting pictures today, though I can't exactly call them all beautiful! That Arachnid/Scorpion-like creature is terrifying to look at! I wouldn't dare touch it. The Catapillar though is astounding, nature always manages to make the most weird and beautiful things. I'll make sure to do some research into these because they are fascinating!
ReplyDeleteThanks Oliver!! Yeah, that ugly thing is terrifying. I wouldn't have held it in my hand like my son did!!! I agree, the catapillar is astounding! I agree that nature makes the most beautiful things!! I've wondered about that carrot picture I had found. Do you believe that is real or could someone have combined pictures.. somehow.. and come up with that? It does look real to me, but it is really, really unusual. I know you can't believe everything you see on the internet.. but it looks real to me.
ReplyDeleteI've seen many images of vegetables in particular growing in very weird ways like the carrot you posted so I'm leaning more on the side of saying its real. However if it is edited they did a very commendable job of it!
DeleteThanks! I agree!!! IF someone edited it they did a tremendous job!!!!
DeleteThose are some really fun photos, even if that second one looks like an alien from some scifi movie! I especially loved the caterpillar and looked it up. Turns out that the moth it turns into is just as pretty and has the same striking colors. Now I've been sucked down a rabbit hole of beautiful moth images and some of them truly are astounding!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much!!! I will look that up also! I've got to see what it turns into!!
DeleteI found the link again, so you can see the before and after, though I don't know if this will allow links to be shared. https://www.zmescience.com/feature-post/breathtaking-metamorphosis-the-saturniidae-moths/
DeleteIf the link doesn't show up, the website is ZME Science and the post title is Breathtaking Metamorphosis: The Saturniidae Moths.
I was able to copy/past the link. Thank you!! It is a pretty moth for sure, but I love the caterpillar better!! It's more beautiful!!
DeleteI have to admit the caterpillar does have more flair than the moth. :D I also drew another moth, this time in color. If you'd like I'll email you a copy or I can send you a link to my Instagram if you'd prefer.
DeleteI don't use Instagram so you can send it to my email please. :)
DeleteI just came across this blog from you new video Shirley, lovely photo of that caterpillar.
ReplyDeleteThank you!! :) May I have a name, please? Everyone else leaves me a name.
DeleteThat one you found on your wall was a Vinegroon.. they are a member of the scorpion family but not poisonous. I didnt know they could show up in Virginia! They look like they belong in Solstheim. The carrot is great.. love it. I would plant it of course rather than eat yhem, lol. That caterpiller is amazing. There is a caterpiller in the southwest that has tons of fluff on it and its poisonous.. who would have thought a caterpiller could be poisonous but a rare few are. Thank you Shirley for sharing these. Always fun!❤️👍
ReplyDeleteHi Loretta!! Aren't these three things gorgeous, and frightening?!!
DeleteYes they are!
DeleteThat bug from the wall looks like my worst enemy in skyrim! I love that caterpillar,it looks like something from the ocean. I would be scared of it being poisonous. When I had a garden I found 3 Eastern Black Swallowtail caterpillars right before a big freeze so I raised them inside in a bug cage until they were ready to fly and I released them at a botanical garden full of flowers and other of its kind
ReplyDeleteHi! That bug would be my worst enemy also!! I would not hold it!! I love the name of Eastern Black Swallowtail caterpillars!!! Sounds like a bird! lol How sweet that you was able to release it where you did!!! :)
DeleteDid you ever find out what kind of bug that was? When I lived in New Mexico we had some scarey looking and some really pretty bugs!
ReplyDeleteSomeone on here said that scary one is a Vinegaroon (sp). Is that the one you meant?
DeleteThese are all super cute! ...Except for the bug in the middle. Once in an apartment growing up, I had a house centipede crawl along the wall in the dark which was absolutely horrifying, but that thing looks miles more dangerous. The caterpillar definitely has some stellar hair.
ReplyDeleteHi Maverick! That bug is horrifying!!! A centipede in the dark would scare me!!
DeleteI agree... that caterpillar does have some stellar hair!! lol
Wow! That beetle looking thing looks so creepy! I personally can't handle centipedes lol *shudder* I love those carrots! So cute! And that caterpillar is magnificent! Thanks for sharing! I have bookmarked your blog so I don't forget to check :) :) Thanks again Grandma!
ReplyDeleteThank you Oliviaaa!!! I think unusual things like I showed are so cool and interesting, and some so frightening, and beautiful! lol Glad you enjoyed seeing them!!
DeleteLove the hugging carrots. That is so cute. However, the critter in the second picture is not! I think even my husband would be a bit weirded out (or maybe he would think it's cool).
ReplyDeleteThe caterpillar makes me think it would be from a fantasy novel.
Hi!! Yes the carrots are so cute.. at a glance does it seem like you can see faces?!
DeleteYes.. the other thing is TERRIFYING!! And it was on my wall!! And in my sons hand!!!
I agree that the caterpillar could be from a fantasy novel... hmmm... I wonder if I could write a story about that?! I've written other short stories on here in the past. lol
Yes! I can totally see faces on the carrots.
DeleteI would love to read what you could come up with for a short story about the caterpillar!
lol I might try it!!
DeleteHi grandma!!
ReplyDeleteThat carrot family is so adorable You can almost make out faces on them like they're posing for a photo lol
That 'thing' in the second image is horrifying - If I saw that in my living room i'd move out of there!!!!
That caterpillar is so ethereal, I wonder what type of moth it would grow into..
Hi Guppy!! Someone on here said that caterpillar made as beautiful moth as it is!!! I'll have to try to find a picture of that!!
DeleteYes, I agree that thing is horrifying!! lol
You know, I thought that same thing about the carrots!! I thought at times I could see faces, especially at just a glance! lol
Hello! Someone else just told us on here how beautiful it is when it turns into a moth!! I've got to look that up. Maybe I can take a picture of the picture and show it on here.
ReplyDeleteThat carrot does look like a mother and baby, so sweet.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many fascinating animals. I just learned about a sea slug that looks like a sheep or bunny and it's very cute. I think if you look up "sea sheep slug" you'll probably see it. :)
Ha, love it when vegetables grow into funny shapes; I think there was even a store nearby that ran an ad about those 'unusual' pieces -- something like 'freely grown, right from the farmers' fields' kind of stuff, to get people to buy those veggies too and not just the 'neat' ones -- but they did use some really hilarious shapes in the ad, I'll give them that 😁😁
ReplyDeleteThat insectoid animal is apparently a 'whip scorpion' or 'vinegaroon' (because they can discharge some sort of vinegar-like smelly acid or something..), if the internet speaks the truth -- yes, they do look quite odd and yes, I would also probably be a bit wary in their vicinity....but that oddity of their visage is also really cool! They lack venom glands of their own, so they crush their prey to death! 😮
Would make for an interesting boss fight in a game, wouldn't you say? 😉😁 Inigo might like that, haha 😁
And that caterpillar is just stunning, of course. Love how colourful nature can be!
Have a cool day! 😊
Hervissa!!! I love that beautiful caterpillar!!! And, that praying mantis!!! Inigo would probably sword fight that 'whip scorpion'!!
DeleteI like that name for him!!

ReplyDeleteThank you for the cool pictures, Shirley! I looked up the caterpillar Saturniidae and this moth looks gorgeous with eyes on a wings! One can admire nature's beauty endlessly!
ReplyDeleteI totall agree!! I love these pictures!! :)
ReplyDeletelol omg I died laughing at the pole dancer comment LOL she is gorgeous though, maybe we should call her cash-a-pillar or butt-erfly hahahaha omg sorry I'm laughing so hard though! xD
ReplyDeleteAlso wow, I grew up in VA and lived there most of my life, I don't think I've ever seen one of those things!! o_O
I think you are the only ONE who noticed what I said!! LOL
DeleteI like the names you gave her!!! LOL
Hahahaha I'm still laughing about it :D
DeleteHi, Grandma. I've just been busy but I love the pics. I have been waiting for you to get back to my email for a while. I'm at hal20062b@gmail.com and I just got baptized over the weekend so I sent you a pic of that not too long ago.
ReplyDeleteI saw the picture and did reply to you. Very nice!
DeleteDid your son know that creepy thing wasn't poisonous when he picked it up??? That thing would have scared me to death. Ok. Even moths flying around my house scare me, but THAT thing...
I'm assuming it turns into a moth or butterfly. It will be beautiful!! You said it seems like I've been dealing with "chaurus" long before Skyrim...what does does that word, chaurus, mean?

Hope you made it home fine. I know you didn't make it home dry ;-). If there was another manager in the building I would have taken you home
ReplyDeleteYou are so sweet!! Thank you for checking on me! I was totally drenched!! (spl?) But I'm dried off and in a long fluffy robe so I'm warm and dry!! :)
DeleteGlad to hear. See you later

ReplyDeleteSubmarine.. I simply loved your comment!!! So funny. I don't know if that scorpion thing was a stinger or not.. certainly looked like one!! I haven't looked up that beautiful caterpillar yet to find out what it turns into. I'll try to remember to do that soon!!
ReplyDeleteThat scorpion looks scarry. I initally thought it was from the time when you were living in Arizona but then I noticed you said Virginia. Where there any snakes and creepy crawlers when you lived in Arizona?
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have touched it!!! In Arizona, when we would be wandering around in the desert, I never encountered anything bad or else just went around them. I actually don't remember encountering any snakes
ReplyDeletethough!! I would have screamed and grabbed my kids up
and RAN!! LOL
Oooh look at the caterpillar! So beautiful!
ReplyDeleteA few years ago, me and my dad were walking through a patch of really tall reeds. So tall, they reached just slightly above our heads I think. Midway through we noticed a cool looking caterpillar. It was black and white (if I remember correctly), with lots of long, furlike strands of hair. It was cool until we noticed there wasn't just that one, but LOADS of them, on every reed, and we were literally rubbing against those reeds as we walked lol! Then it got a bit too many and too close, so we backed out of that patch haha!
But man, that scorpion-like creature... it looks vicious! I don't think I'd dare pick it up!
Cute carrots! It reminds me a bit of the little knolls you get on potatoes that look like a head. Cute, but kinda sad when you chop it off LOL!
Hi Jema!!!
ReplyDeleteI thought that caterpillar was so beautiful, but when it turns into a moth is isn't nearly as pretty, which is weird. :)
Did you have to pick any of those caterpillars off of you clothes? :)
I thought the carrots were really cute, but odd.
Shirley
The carrots are so person-like! I wouldn't have the heart to eat them!
ReplyDeleteNo thank goodness, we found none on our clothes! (Maybe we just didn't notice..... lol!)
I guess it's obvious, but that's me Jema, who forgot to login for this comment LOL!
DeleteGlad you told me! I was wondering who this Anonymouse was!
DeleteDear Shirley, I found these three things incredibly cool, the bug in the second image looks dangerous and the noises you describe creep me out! I don't think I'd have had the bravery to pick one up, even millipedes give me goosebumps! The last picture of the caterpillar(?) is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI found this link in the description of one of your videos and I read through a few of your posts, I just wanted to say that I'm a big fan of your work and that your blog is wonderful
Thank you so much!! I appreciate what you said. Yes, I love that beautiful caterpillar!! He's so fancy! I wish I knew what it was going to turn into and what it will look like. :) Thank you so much for leaving me a comment!! Hop I see you some more!
